THERE was something of a carnival atmosphere as Bishop's Stortford played some out standing rugby to win this match at a canter.
But Dings played their part as both sides offered some brilliant running rugby at times. Stortford got off to a fast start, racing into a 26-0 lead after just 24 minutes. Two tries each for Tom Mills and Isaac Bell, with Mike Cooke converting three, did the damage as the hosts looked to blow Dings away.
But the visitors fought hard throughout and were rewarded both sides. Stortford with tries from Tom Gollop and Tom Hargan, both converted by Jamie Elswood, sandwiching a fifth try for the home team from No.8 Will Rogers.
The second half was more disjointed as injuries mounted on both sides.
Stortford finished with a prop at number 8 and 2 back rows in the three quarters after both centres went off injured.
Despite that, the tries continued to flow. It was tit-for-tat initially, with home tries for Jack Biard and Chris Bolton - both converted by Cooke-cancelled out by unconverted scores from Ezra Caven and Max Rivers for Dings.
Stortford finished with a flourish through a hugely popular try for Chris Smith, playing his last game after six seasons, and the winger was allowed to end the game by converting the final try from Declan Murphy to bring this rugby carnival to an end
