Match report - Dings Crusaders 19 Rosslyn Park 50

Baz Johnson16 Feb - 01:41

Rosslyn Park rattle up a half century with a big win at Shaftesbury Park

Early doors, Rosslyn Park seemed edgy as their initial error led to Dings playing out through the hands to Max Rivers ripping the defence apart to score in the corner. 2 minutes and the home side ahead by 5.

The visitors settled into their rhythm as a 5m line out challenges the defence for 5 phases before Dings relent allowing Parks opening score through Conrad Cade, Josh Bragman adding the extras.

12 minutes in and we look set for an epic battle, as Dings cross again through a dominant Tommy Gollop maul.

A passage of open play now, but the home defence leaves gaps and Ewan Fenley pops in too easily. Dings rally and seem to win the aerial battle until prop Rhys Charalambous shows incredible mobility tearing through the line with a tap tackle from Tom Knight the only thing stopping a certain score. Short lived though as a penalty sees Park using the set piece to create width for Will Glover to dot down.
The theme continued 3 minutes later as Ben Marlo breaks the line at halfway standing up 6 defenders as he crosses the paint under the sticks ending the half 12-22

More penalties against the hosts, and with a switch play Tom Stanton adds more for Rosslyn.
Some hope comes as Ezra Caven takes to the field from the bench, and with his first touch and a perfect diagonal line, scores. Jamie Elswood adding the extras for the last time in the game.

It was Rosslyns game now, as the penalty cursed Crusaders seem unable to stop the onslaught. Jamie Elswood and shortly after Matt Bennett see yellow for Dings who finish the game with 13 men.

Bragman scores and converts, Charalambous powers over, and to close the game Jasper Cameron takes the ball over for replacement fly half Steffan James to take it to the half century.

Post match Head Coach for the visitors Steven Neville said “We took this game seriously and had done our due diligence on Dings Crusaders prior to coming here, and having stuck to our plan in attack and defence, with a couple of fix ups at half time, we did what we said we were going to do and we feel that’s what gave us that scoreline today.
“We’re really happy. It’s a tough place to come against a great team who deserve their place in Nat 1, and that makes us even more delighted with our 5 points”.
